DISTRICT MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME
DISTRICT MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME is a community
based mental Health care programme based on the guidelines of National Mental Health Programme which is fully
funded by the Government of India with the prime objective of Reaching
the unreached.
OBJECTIVES
Ø Early detection and treatment
of
patients within the community
itself.
Ø To see that the patients
and their relatives do not have to travel
long distances to
go to hospital or nursing
homes in the cities.
Ø To take pressure
off the mental hospitals
Ø To reduce the stigma attached towards
mental illness through
change of attitude
and public education.
Ø To treat and rehabilitate patients discharged from psychiatric hospitals within the community.
• This is a special
programme to create
awareness about mental
health and to make psychiatric
services easily
accessible at the community.
•
In Tiruppur
District we are conducting out patient services
in all Government hospitals and Block primary
health centres to screen,
diagnose, treat, counsel patients and their families.
• This is a Fixed day programme ,where psychiatric services are available on fixed days of every
month at all Taluk
hospitals and Block PHC’S.
•
Regular IEC ,Awareness generation activities, Mental Health Thursday
awareness programme and E Poster dissemination on mental health conducted.
• Training on mental health conducted for medical officers
of primary health
centres, paramedical
staffs for early identification ,screening and referral
services.
•
MANAM Programme implemented and formed Manam ambassador clubs
at schools and colleges.
•
In Tamilnadu Government Model School, providing individual counselling to the needy children monthly
twice.
•
Dedicated
mobile help line- NATPUDAN UNGALODU MANA
NALA SEVAI Through 14416 Counselling services are offered
under DMHP. Telephonic counselling for attempted suicide patients twice monthly for subsequent 18 months through
104 help line.
•
Regularly conducting special mental health
camps under Target intervention activities for school and college students , work places,
agricultural labourers, Antenatal mothers, prison inmates, Health
care workers, sanitary workers, unorganised sectors.
•
At district
counselling centre, we are conducting special mental health
clinics such as child guidance clinic, geriatric mental
health clinic, suicide
prevention clinic, deaddiction clinic.
•
For alcoholic patients, separate deaddiction unit is functioning at Government medical
college Tiruppur.
• For homeless mentally ill persons, we are having Emergency care and recovery centre at GMC,Tiruppur
•
For long term
continuing care of mentally ill persons, Government aided home for mentally ill persons
is functioning at s.peiyapalayam, Tiruppur which is accommodating 50
persons and offering mental
health care services. Here Joint inspection done regularly by district psychiatrist and DDAWO monthly
once.
• All essential psychotropic drugs are available at all
Taluk GH and Block Primary
health centres.
