Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural
Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) is a flagship poverty alleviation program
implemented by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India. It aims
to reduce poverty by enabling the poor household to access gainful
self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities resulting in
sustainable and diversified livelihood options for the poor. This is one of the
world's largest initiatives to improve the livelihoods of the poor.
The National Rural
Livelihood Mission (NRLM), also known as DAY-NRLM Aajeevika, has the following
objectives:
1. Reduce poverty: The NRLM aims to reduce poverty by providing poor households with access to self-employment and skilled wage employment opportunities.

Sustainable livelihoods: The NRLM aims to provide sustainable
and diversified livelihood options for the poor.
3.
Institutional platforms: The NRLM aims to create institutional
platforms for the rural poor.
4.
Financial services: The NRLM aims to improve access to
financial services for the rural poor.
5. Grassroots institutions: The NRLM aims to build strong grassroots institutions of the poor.
The National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM)

linkages for Self Help Groups (SHGs).
4. Promote democratic governance: The NRLM introduces and strengthens
systems of
democratic governance and transparent financial management.
5.Promote sustainable livelihoods: The NRLM promotes sustainable livelihoods
through social mobilization and the strengthening of community institutions.
Some key features of
the DAY-NRLM include:
1. Self Help Groups (SHGs):One member from each rural poor household is brought under the SHG network. Women SHG groups are linked with banks.
2. Federated
SHGs: SHGs
are federated at village level and higher levels to reduce dependence on
external agencies.
3. Interest subvention:Women SHGs can avail credit from banks and financial institutions at a subvention of 7% on the lending rate, up to a maximum of ₹ 3,00,000 per SHG.
