The Green Election Initiative by the District Administration Rupnagar leverages the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program to promote environmentally sustainable practices during elections. This initiative focuses on voter awareness and delivering a strong message about environmental protection to the citizens of Rupnagar.
Under the Green Election Initiative, the administration has implemented several eco-friendly measures. Paperless/Plasticless campaigning was encouraged, with political parties and candidates urged to use digital platforms and social media for voter outreach. When physical materials are necessary, recyclable and biodegradable options are prioritized. Special model polling booths with different environmental themes were set up at polling stations. Additionally, plants were distributed to voters with the slogan "One Vote, One Plant."
Tree plantation drives are also organized to offset carbon emissions associated with election activities. By integrating the SVEEP program, the District Administration Rupnagar ensures that the message of environmental protection reaches a wide audience, fostering a culture of sustainability and responsibility among the electorate.
Through these efforts, the Green Election Initiative not only minimizes the environmental footprint of elections but also inspires the community to adopt sustainable practices in all aspects of civic life.
